ICON Art Academy’s Introduction to Graphic Design program introduces students to the fundamentals of graphic design and visual communication. Students learn how to combine typography, imagery, color, and composition to create effective and visually engaging designs. The program is designed to help students build a strong foundation while developing their own creative approach to design.

 
 

Introduction to Graphic Design: Building a Strong Foundation

The Introduction to Graphic Design LvI class is beginner-friendly and designed for students who are new to graphic design. Students will learn:

  • Fundamental principles of graphic design

  • Typography and font selection

  • Color theory and color relationships

  • Composition, balance, and visual hierarchy

  • Image selection and visual communication

  • Basic graphic design tools and techniques

  • Developing and refining original design concepts

Through guided projects and hands-on practice, students will learn how individual design elements work together to communicate ideas effectively. Students will have opportunities to experiment with different visual approaches while developing their foundational design skills.

Grade Level & Prerequisite

Grade Level: 6th Grade–9th Grade 

Prerequisite: Beginner-friendly.

 

Advanced Graphic Design: Developing Creative Design Skills

Graphic Design LvII is designed for students who have established a foundation in graphic design and are ready to take on more complex creative projects. Students will:

Develop original design concepts

Apply advanced principles of composition and visual communication

Explore typography, imagery, color, and layout in greater depth

Create cohesive designs for different purposes and audiences

Develop projects from initial concept to finished design

Receive feedback and refine their work

Strengthen their individual creative and design approach

The focus shifts from learning basic design principles to applying them with greater independence and intention. Students will take on projects that encourage creative problem-solving while developing more polished and thoughtful designs.

 

Grade Level & Prerequisite

Grade Level: 9th Grade and Above

Prerequisite: Completion of Introduction to Graphic Design LvI or approval by the instructor.

Students who are ready to progress beyond the fundamentals can continue into Graphic Design LvII, where they can further develop their design skills through more advanced projects and creative applications.

Whether you are discovering graphic design for the first time or ready to build on your existing skills, ICON’s Graphic Design program provides students with the foundation and creative direction to develop as designers.
