About

ICON Art Academy’s Online Product Design Program introduces students to the creative process of designing products that are both functional and visually engaging. Students learn how to develop ideas, explore form and function, and communicate their designs through sketches and visual concepts. The program is offered at two levels so students can build their skills progressively and take on projects that match their experience.

Introduction to Product Design: Exploring the Foundations

The Introduction to Product Design class is beginner-friendly and designed for students who are new to product design. Students will learn:

• Fundamentals of product design and development

• Sketching and visualizing product ideas

• Form, function, and usability

• Proportion, shape, and structure

• Developing product concepts through ideation

• Basic design presentation techniques

• Refining ideas from initial sketches to final concepts

Through guided exercises and hands-on projects, students will explore how creative ideas can be transformed into thoughtful product concepts while developing foundational design skills.

Grade Level & Prerequisite

Grade Level: 6th Grade–9th Grade 

Prerequisite: Beginner-friendly.

Advanced Product Design: Developing Creative Solutions

The Product Design class is designed for students who have established foundational skills and are ready to develop more sophisticated product concepts. Students will:

• Develop original product ideas and concepts

• Explore the relationship between aesthetics, function, and user needs

• Apply design principles to more complex projects

• Refine sketches, forms, and visual presentations

• Develop projects from initial ideation to final concept

• Receive feedback and refine their designs

• Strengthen creative problem-solving and design thinking skills

The focus shifts from learning the fundamentals to developing purposeful and innovative design solutions. Students are encouraged to consider how their products can respond to real-world needs while developing their own creative approach to design.
